How Ogden Clinic Elevated Employee Engagement with Tava Health

January 7, 2025

Ogden Clinic began as a small family practice in 1950 and has grown to serve Northern Utah with over 20 medical specialties, 200+ providers, and multiple locations. Known for its commitment to excellence and compassion, Ogden Clinic aims to be the place of choice for patients, employees, and providers by remaining a thriving independent, physician-owned, multi-specialty group practice. Part of achieving their mission is to attract and retain talented employees and physicians. Recognizing the value of quality employee benefits, they prioritized adding a robust mental health benefit to their indirect compensation offerings. Their previous EAP services were bundled with life insurance and EAP services and access fell short—especially as the need for accessible, high-quality mental health care surged during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Challenge

Ogden Clinic utilized the bundled service and partnered with a local mental health provider to supplement mental health services to employees and their family members. However, employees faced significant barriers: limited visits, limited provider options, poor access and availability, and a high turnover rate among therapists were reasons that led to the partnerships’ demise. As Ambré Pack, HR Business Partner, noted, “The customer service just wasn't there, the access wasn't there, and the need for virtual meetings and more therapists on hand became a priority.” Utilization rates with previous providers never exceeded 7%, signaling the offered services were not resonating with employees, despite high utilization for mental health services that were occurring through Ogden Clinic’s employee medical plans. Costly indicators such as excessive ER visits, inpatient and outpatient services, medication costs, and employee relations issues demonstrated the need for improved mental health benefits and access.

Why Tava Health?

When Ogden Clinic evaluated new employee mental health solutions, Tava Health was in a league of its own. “Everything that Tava has, we need,” said Valerie Kierejewski, Director of People Engagement. Tava’s online platform offered comprehensive access: a robust selection of therapists, user-friendly tools for selecting providers, evening and after-hours appointments, continuity of care, and virtual sessions. A key differentiator to ensure Tava’s best-in-class services was access to 50+ mental health professionals. Finding quality healthcare providers is difficult and it is through Tava’s innovative provider payment model that ensures quality providers and patient access. Tava’s provider payment model drives therapists to partner with Tava. Therapists are paid as soon as the client’s session notes are locked, ensuring minimal administrative burden for all, increasing focus on patient care, and being compensated timely and competitively, “Good therapists want to go work at good places,” Kierejewski affirmed.

The Impact

Since partnering with Tava Health, Ogden Clinic has seen remarkable improvements. Utilization rates have soared to over 25%, more than double what they experienced with prior EAPs. Ambré Pack highlighted this shift: “It is crazy the amount of people utilizing Tava versus our previous EAP services. The numbers speak for themselves.”

Beyond statistics, Tava Health has proven vital during difficult moments. When an employee passed away, Tava provided immediate and effective support. “We reminded people they could sign up for private sessions,” said Amelia Martinez, HR Technical Analyst, and the support extended even to some part-time staff, demonstrating Ogden Clinic’s commitment to comprehensive care. Group sessions were offered for teams needing collective support, with consistent follow-ups to ensure continued well-being. Employees could attend virtually to meet with the same therapist for both group sessions.

A Seamless Partnership

Ogden Clinic found Tava Health to be a true partner in fostering a healthier workplace. The ease of implementation and the alignment of services with employee needs sets Tava apart from competitors. “Access is just greatly improved, and offering more visits is another big benefit,” Kierejewski concluded.

For Ogden Clinic, transitioning to Tava Health has transformed its mental health benefits from a limited, underutilized, and undervalued service to a cornerstone of employee well-being. By offering better access, supporting employees during critical times, and simplifying HR processes, Tava Health has proven that it is more than just a service—it is a solution that works.
